watch the fire
(written by bill passalacqua and matt passalacqua)

watch the fire burning bright
watch the grey smoke rise
escorting sparks up to the stars
to join them in the sky
watch the wood go black and red
as yellow burns from blue
it burns a hole into my eyes
and brings me back to you

hear the wind go racing through
chasing up the flames
making shadows dance around
in ever changing frames
it snaps and sizzles, pops and cracks
it rages to a roar
curls hair too close in there
and opens up my pores

the dry logs have all burned away
the wet ones steam and hiss
like water in an old teapot
escaping into mist
it sucks me in and it holds me tight
it thaws my frozen heart
burns itself to ashes
and slowly falls apart
